While our regular small groups are on hiatus, Ransom Portis will be leading a Winter Bible Study for all ages on Thursday nights – January 5, 12, 19 and 26 from 6:30-8pm. The group will take an in-depth look at several Old Testament passages over the course of the month. The first meeting will be at Jess & Melissa’s home (call the church office for address!), but subsequent meetings will be held at The Feed Truck Cafe at Princeton UMC. Contact Ransom ([email protected]) or Jesse Bassett ([email protected]) for more info!
Kingston UMC’s Annual Christmas Pageant ridiculosity is coming!
On December 18th, join us at the 11am service to experience what happens when there are one too many Hamilton fans in a single church at Christmas time…
Come celebrate the holiday season with the Kingston flock! Jess & Melissa are hosting an open house at their home in Princeton. All are welcome! Stop by for some food, hot cocoa, and Christmas cheer! (Contact church office for location details.)
Holy Week is a sacred time within the Christian year and KUMC is offering additional opportunities to worship.
Maundy Thursday: Join us Thursday March 24th at 6:30pm for a service focusing on the servanthood of Jesus. The title “Maundy Thursday” gets its name from the “new commandment” (mandatum novum in Latin) that Jesus gives in John 13:34 (mandatum novum in Latin). On this night Christians commemorate the supper Jesus shared with his disciples before his crucifixion, when Jesus washed the disciples’ feet and instituted the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper. The service will include a light meal.
Good Friday: Join us Friday March 25th at 7:00pm for a service focusing on the seven last words of Jesus. Good Friday is the starkest day in the Christian year. We focus intently on the Passion: the suffering, desolation, and death of Jesus. The altar is bare, and the candles which represent the light of Christ are slowly extinguished throughout the service.
Easter: Join us Sunday March 27th for Easter in which we celebrate with joy the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ! Matthew 28:6 says, “He is not here; he is risen, just as he said.” On Easter, we celebrate and worship a risen Lord who has conquered death to reconcile humanity with God.
Service times are:
6:30 am: Sunrise Service at Carnegie Lake with Kingston Presbyterian Church; followed by a breakfast at KPC.
9:00am and 11am: Services at Kingston United Methodist
We look forward to worshipping together this Holy Week.
JOIN US IN WELCOMING Jessica Winderweedle and Werner Ramirez as our new ministers on February 21st for a Potluck in between the two services!
If you are able, please bring a dish to share. The Potluck will begin around 10:10 and wrap up before the second service – around 10:55. We hope that you will stay a little later or come a little early to either service you attend and help us officially welcome Jess and Werner.
Please join us for Ash Wednesday on February 10th. This is a day of dual encounter: we confront our own mortality and we confess our sin before God within the community of faith. Services with an imposition of ashes are at 7am and 7pm.
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season in the church year known as Lent. Lent began as a period of forty days of fasting before Easter developed not long after the Council of Nicaea in 325. Lent evolved as the final preparation for those who were to be baptized into faith on Easter Sunday. While the current understanding of Lent has become almost entirely about the Christian community’s preparation for Holy Week and Easter, the theme of baptism is still very much a part of the season. Lent is a reminder of our baptism. In Romans 6:3-4, the Apostle Paul says through our baptism we have died with Christ, so that we may be raised with him in his resurrection. Lent is a reminder that in our baptism we have journeyed with Christ in dying to our old life, and we have been transformed to new life through being raised with Christ. Lent is ultimately about journeying with Christ to transformation.
January 31 will be Trey’s last official Sunday as pastor of KUMC. Join us in celebrating the Wince family on Sunday January 31 between services. A special presentation will start around 10:30 am.
All are invited to bring handwritten notes or cards to be given to Trey, Debbie, and Liam to express our gratitude for their time with our congregation and prayers as they head into this new chapter.
