GETTING INVOLVED
There are many ways you can become active in the life of Kingston United Methodist Church. The first, and easiest, step is to stay after Sunday services for our fellowship time. This will give you the opportunity to get to know others in the community and learn what activities are available. Be sure you are receiving a copy of our newsletter (see Join our email list) and watch the Sunday bulletin for inserts about current events.
Groups and Committees
Joining a small group is the next best way to become involved. Groups that you can choose from:
The church choir, which rehearses at 9 a.m. Sunday morning
The “Talk Back” discussion group, which meets after service
The daytime Women’s Bible Study group, which will begin again in the fall
The Wednesday evening prayer group, which meets on alternate Wednesday nights
The Administrative Council, which usually meets the third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in Anderson House
Committees include Worship, Trustees, Finance, Staff/Parish Relations, Publicity. If you are interested in any of these, see the minister or Lay Leader.
Helping Out
Being a small church, there are many functions that need volunteer workers. These range from such tasks helping set up the refreshments and coffee for the fellowship time before worship or helping clean up afterward to cutting the grass in summer, raking leaves in the fall, or shoveling snow in the winter. The first Sunday of the month we collect non-perishable items in our shopping cart, which are taken to the local Crisis Ministry. We sometimes have a sign-up sheet for specific items needed by a church family. There is a box in the fellowship hall for items to be sent to our troops overseas. There are also sign-up sheets for helping out in worship by reading the scripture or being a greeter.
As we proceed into the new church year, our mission statement will be leading us into more areas where we can feed more sheep, adding more opportunities for people to become involved in the life of this church community.
If you have a skill or interest for which we don’t seem to have a spot, talk to the minister about how we can share your special talents with the church and the community at large.
