The Curse of Mediocrity

Thursday’s Reflection

MEDIOCRITY IS A SAD CURSE that threatens
to suck the lifeblood from many people,
people who might otherwise pursue lives
that actually mean something
beyond the day in, day out of survival.
We all know people who constantly
regress to the unremarkable.
We may sometimes be tempted
to follow that path ourselves.
It is too easy to fall into patterns of below average,
develop a comfortable rhythm there,
and consequently live out our lives without ever
pushing any kind of envelope at all.

Today’s Scripture Reading

1 Peter 2:2-3

This Week: pray for for church committees, conferences, councils. Add your prayer to the Prayer Wall.
Tips for Your Spirit:
Praying with Eyes Open. Many of us were taught to close our eyes when we pray. Praying with icons is an ancient prayer practice that involves keeping our eyes wide open, taking into our heart what the image visually communicates. Try praying with icons.
Saints, Inc.:
This week we remember Anslem (May 21).
