Prayer at Bedtime

Saturday’s Reflection

PRAYER AT BEDTIME (often called Compline) is for the purpose of relinquishing the day to God and asking for God’s care as we sleep. We close the door and place all things, including ourselves, in God’s hands. . . . There’s no better way to end the day than confident of our safety in the arms of God.

Prayer of Relinquishment
Into your hands, O God, I commit my spirit. The day which you have given to me is now past. I thank you for the gift of life and the opportunity to glorify you today through my thoughts, words, and deeds. I leave today in your hands, trusting that you will take its successes and failures and weave them into a tapestry of love and grace for me and for those with whom I have come in contact. I especially pray for ( ), and I ask for your mercy, particularly in relation to ( ).

Today’s Question

If you are a caregiver for a family member or loved one, this reflection is meant to encourage you and help you rely on God’s strength to make it through your daily challenges. If you know a caregiver, pray for that person and think about how you might be able to help; whether by sitting with the loved one for a while so the caregiver can get out, sending a card, making a phone call, or doing something to brighten the caregiver’s day. Share your reflections.
