Week 11 - Kerri Lynn Kane

What can you tell someone about believing what they cannot see? This is something I know many people wrestle with, I have had my fair share of torment about this issue. I have never seen God, but I do talk with Him everyday and know He is with me. He has been with me all my life, even when I chose to deny Him. He was never more present than on December 17, 2025 when our unborn son was diagnosed with Spina Bifida at 20 weeks. A doctor I had never met, let alone heard of, gave me the news that our child would never walk or be normal. He then continued to tell me that most parents when faced with this decision terminate the pregnancy. What?? Not knowing what the outcome could be parents choose to terminate?? I was shocked and horrified. I chose to reach down into my own heart and believe in what I couldn’t see. It was a choice. It wasn’t easy. It didn’t really make sense, but, I did it. I chose to believe that God had a plan for my son, regardless of his circumstances. If you don’t know that God loves you, it will be hard to believe that He has a plan for you. If you don’t know that God loves you, you’re not going to buy into the fact that you can trust Him. But, it’s true. If I chose to be like the 1,000 people each year that terminate due to a spina bifida diagnosis I would not be where I am spiritually today or have met the people I have met on this journey.

Jarrett Kane was delivered 2 years ago April 20, 2026 at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Special Delivery Unit at 11:31 p.m. via c-section. He was kicking his legs, strong and very healthy! He has had 1 surgery to close and repair the hole in his back and 2 surgeries for his VP Shunt. He is able to stand and crawl, go to the bathroom by himself and is almost ready to begin walking. He is funny, cute like his Daddy and just the happiest baby ever! Did I forget to mention SMART?? He is curious, funny, silly, talkative, playful and a complete joy! I could never imagine our family without him! Just goes to show you that God does have a plan, even when you feel the odds are against you. Trust and believe what you don’t see, you may be surprised when you open your eyes fully and see the amazing glory of God!

The way I plan to feed more sheep is by sharing my journey with Spina Bifida and how God works in our lives through the highs and lows, the thorns and buds. Rejoice in Him for the highs and lean on Him when you are surrounded by thorns. Share His love with your friends and neighbors and never forget we are all children of God, no matter what our differences.

  1. I was so gladt to share this with my church family. Most of what I said, I had never said to anyone before. God has worked within me and chose me & Jarrett for this journey. What better way than to share my experience and feed a few sheep while doing so. Grace & Love to all xo
