KUMC seeks a responsible volunteer or paid part-time employee to manage its books. The successful candidate will be well-versed in Quick Books and have experience in the tasks associated with paying bills, tracking revenues, and maintaining current and reliable financial records.
KUMC has a growing congregation of approximately 125. It is a teaching church with many students from Princeton Theological Seminary on its staff or in communion, and a core body of worshipers with deep roots in Kingston and its surrounds.
The church’s financial operations are those of a medium-sized non-profit organization. The successful candidate will be expected to perform basic tasks involving paying vendors, recording pledges and worship giving, reconciling bank accounts, preparing monthly financial reports, and assisting with the development of the annual budget. Payroll is managed by a contractor. In addition, because KUMC is also a laboratory for ministry innovation, it is the recipient of several generous grants from larger United Methodist organizations. The successful candidate will manage the records by which KUMC tracks and accounts for its use of these grant funds.
On a weekly basis, KUMC generates a small number of transactions to be booked, and estimates that the duties described here can be performed by a part-time person working 4-6 hours on a recurring weekly schedule.
In examining candidates, KUMC seeks:
- A person with demonstrable experience in Quick Books
- A person of honesty and capable of working with minimal supervision on ordinary office and bookkeeping tasks
- Although a candidate need not be a United Methodist or even a person of faith, experience working in a church or other non-profit environment is desirable
Candidates should submit:
- A narrative writing that discusses in specific detail how the candidate’s qualifications relate to the above criteria
- A resume or work history
- Salary requirements expressed as an hourly rate.
Applications can be submitted to Robert L. Ashbaugh, Chair of the Staff-Parish Relations Committee at [email protected]
